The VW Golf R line-up has been extended with the launch of a rapid new estate model.
It has been revealed at the Los Angeles motor show and is slated for UK delivery next spring. Power comes from the same turbocharged 296bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine as existing three- and five-door hatchback versions of the Golf R.
The Golf R comes with a standard six-speed dual-shift gearbox and four-wheel-drive system. As a result, it has an official 0-62mph time of 5.1sec and limited 155mph top speed along with average fuel consumption of 40.3mpg and CO2 emissions of 163g/km.
It is set apart from the rest of the Golf Estate range by an R-specific bumper with large air inlets, side sills, a bespoke grille, LED daytime running lights with bi-xenon headlights. It also gets 18-inch alloy wheels, while 19-inch models can be added as an optional extra.
Inside it gets Alcantara sport seats with 'R' logos, blue ambient lighting, automatic air conditioning and stainless steel pedals. It also comes with a 'Carbon Race' design on the door panels and contrasting piping on the door mats.
Load capacity increases by 262-litres over the five-door VW Golf R at 605 litres, extending to 1620 litres when the rear seats are folded away.
