Car of the Year Awards 2023: Best electric SUV to drive
Thanks to big advancements in battery and charging technology, the best electric SUVs are now as usable as they are desirable...
BMW iX3 M Sport
The BMW iX3 is one of those rare cars where everything feels perfectly judged. The steering, for example, is well-weighted and precise. That melds seamlessly with the regenerative braking system, which goes about its business of recovering energy without making the brake pedal unpredictable.
There’s also plenty of grip in bends, less body lean than you’ll experience in the Jaguar I-Pace, Mercedes-Benz EQC and Tesla Model Y, and an ability to soak up mid-corner bumps like they’re not even there. And while its 0-62mph time of 6.8sec isn’t as ludicrously quick as some electric cars’, performance feels properly punchy from behind the wheel.
True, the Genesis GV60 can charge up more quickly and feels more special inside, but the iX3 is well equipped in our preferred entry-level M Sport trim. And because it comes with adaptive suspension, you can marvel at the iX3’s plush ride on every journey.
