If you’re in the market for a small SUV and want a lot of bang for your buck, then it’s worth taking a look at the Citroën C3 Aircross.

Indeed, this boxy variant of Citroën’s C3 small car offers all the practicality you’d expect from an SUV and comes generously equipped, all for a keen price – even more so when you take into account that you could put a new C3 Aircross on your driveway for as little as £185 per month.

To do that, you’ll need to opt for a 24-month contract with an annual mileage limit of 5000 miles, and an initial payment of £2219.49. The annual 5000 mile restriction isn’t a huge allowance, so you’ll have to be careful to avoid excess mileage charges.

If you regularly cover more miles, you could opt for a more common 36-month, 10,000-mile agreement with six months initial rental (£1604.01), which will cost £267.33 per month.

You can have your C3 Aircross with either pure petrol or mild hybrid power, and our Deal of the Day comes with the latter (dubbed Hybrid 145), using a 1.2-litre engine with a small electric motor. That motor gives an extra boost over the entry-level engine option, bringing a total output of 143bhp. It’s noticeably quicker than the pure petrol engine, though the rival Skoda Kamiq offers slightly more pace.

Even though it’s only a mild hybrid, you can actually drive the Hybrid 145 for short bursts on electric power alone, as long as you’re gentle with the accelerator. We wish the automatic gearbox was smoother, though.

Inside, you’ll find several quirky features, such as the dinky steering wheel and motivational quotes stitched onto the armrests which remind you to ‘be cool’ and ‘have fun’. For the price point, the quality is acceptable, with some harder plastics – expect to pay slightly more for a plusher interior like those in the Renault Captur or Skoda Kamiq.

Elsewhere inside, there’s a digital driver’s display uniquely positioned above the steering wheel, alongside a 10.25in infotainment touchscreen which comes with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring and a six-speaker sound system. Our Deal of the Day also includes built-in sat-nav and a wireless phone charging pad.

There’s plenty of space both in the front and rear of the C3 Aircross, with space for five inside. There’s a seven-seat option available too, but as you’d expect, space is compromised. And, with 460 litres of boot space, the five-seater is more practical than rivals like the Kamiq and Nissan Juke.

Our Deal of the Day comes in top-spec Max trim, which adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a heated front windscreen and a wireless phone-charger. That’s on top of the standard automatic air conditioning, cruise control, keyless entry and start, automatic LED headlights, ambient lighting, rear-view camera and rear parking sensors.
