A new Tesla Model Y Standard has been announced to enter the US market – and it’s highly likely it’ll wash up on UK shores very soon.

The new Model Y Standard will act as an entry point into the US range of Tesla’s electric family SUV, and it's expected to land in the UK as early as next year.

Tesla claims the Model Y Standard will be the most efficient version yet. According to figures from America's EPA organisation, it will be able to travel up to 321 miles on a charge. But the WLTP economy figures used in Europe are more generous, meaning official figures here could be closer to 365 miles.

It’s likely that the new Model Y Standard could act as a replacement for the current entry-level rear-wheel-drive model, which is available in the UK but not in the US. For reference, that model is powered by a 63kWh battery and has an official 311-mile range.

The new Model Y Standard will also be capable of completing a 0-60mph sprint in 6.8sec – slower than any current UK version. That said, it’ll still comfortably outpace an entry-level Kia EV6.

The Model Y Standard will get a new design for its front and rear bumpers in a bid to maximise efficiency.

Inside, it will look largely similar to the recently-updated Model Y and other Tesla models, with a minimalistic, tech-focused design. The current Model Y has a 15.4in infotainment touchscreen in the centre of the dashboard, which houses controls for practically every function.

In North America, the Model Y Standard gets new soft-touch materials on the seats and a large storage space between the front seats, inspired by the early Model S and Cybertruck.

With 2118 litres of boot space with the rear seats folded, the Model Y Standard will offer similar levels of practicality to what’s currently available. However, it’s unclear if this figure includes the 116-litre ‘frunk’ space under the bonnet of current models.

The Tesla Model Y Standard hasn’t yet been officially confirmed to go on sale in the UK, but we expect it could arrive as early as summer 2026. Prices in the US start at $39,990, which equates to around £30,000 – but it’s unlikely it’ll be quite that cheap when it eventually arrives here. We predict a starting price of around £44,000, which is around the same as what the RWD version costs.
