The best 4x4s and SUVs in 2016
SUVs and 4x4s are some of the most popular cars on the market - here is What Car?'s guide to the best models to buy...
3 - Mazda CX-5

If you're buying an SUV, then the CX-5 should be at the very top of your shortlist - especially if you're looking for acres of luggage space. The five-seater CX-5 offers some of the lowest CO2 emissions in this class, thanks mainly to Mazda's efficient range of Skyactiv engines. It's not perfect, and some of the interior fixtures and fittings don't befit its premium image, but the CX-5 impresses in almost every area.

2 - Audi Q7

We're well into five star SUV territory when it comes to the latest Audi Q7. This is an SUV which looks and feels premium inside and out, and fully justifies its high price tag. It's a genuine seven-seater, and comes with a generous boot as well. The Q7 walks a fine line between practicality and luxury, too, and its cabin is one of the best around. The entry-level SE trim makes the most sense here, and still gives you everything you need.

Our favourite SUV on the market right now is the Land Rover Discovery Sport. It's our Large SUV of the Year award winner, and one of the most practical and cleverly engineered SUVs around. All models get a 2.0-litre diesel engine and four-wheel drive as standard, and all are very comfortable and classy inside. Land Rover's pricing is competitive, too, and as long as you're willing to pay a premium for the Discovery's upmarket image, this is an SUV which makes good financial sense.
