Renault is gearing up to reveal its Juke-rivalling 'Clio SUV' later this week, judging by a teaser image that has appeared on its official media website.

The new model – tipped to be called Captur – is due to arrive in dealers this summer, after making its public debut at the Geneva motor show in March.

The image on Renault's website reveals little beyond confirming that the new car will have Clio-esque front-end styling. The car appears to have contrasting roof and door mirror colours, however, and a metallic 'skid plate' panel at the base of its front bumper.

A higher ride height than the Clio is also expected, to give the elevated driving position expected by SUV buyers.

The Clio SUV will sit on the same chassis underpinnings as the latest Renault Clio, and as a result it's likely to be offered with the same line-up of engines, including the new turbocharged three-cylinder petrol units. The dashboard design should also look similar to the new Clio's.

The new SUV is just one of several small SUVs that are being launched this year, as manufacturers try to steal some of the new market carved out by the Nissan Juke. Earlier this week Peugeot revealed the 2008, Ford is planning to offer a Fiesta SUV called the Ecosport, while Vauxhall has already started selling the Mokka.

Check whatcar.com from 9am on Friday morning to see full details on the Clio SUV.
