The Dacia Duster SUV will cost less than £10,000 when it goes on sale in the UK at the end of 2012 - but buyers won’t get a further penny in discount.

The launch of the Romanian budget brand is a key part of the revised UK plans of parent firm Renault, which has also announced that it is axing well-known models including the Espace and Laguna.

Dacia will launch two cars: the Qashqai-sized Duster, which will be built in India, and the Sandero, a Fiesta-rivalling five-door hatchback.

Sandero prices are expected to start from around £7000. Both cars will probably be offered with 1.6-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines.

The two new Dacias will be sold in specific areas of every Renault showroom on a basis of ‘value but no haggling’. This principle - which has been used in every region where Dacia has been introduced across Europe - means extremely low list prices but no discounts, even for fleet buyers who are purchasing in bulk.

Renault sees no potential conflict from selling bigger cars for less money across the same showroom floor as its regular line-up.

‘We see Dacia as a good brand for attracting new customers,’ said Renault UK boss Thierry Sybord, ‘and historically most new buyers for Dacia have come from the used car market’.
