Toyota Yaris Hybrid-R revealed
Toyota has given its normally sensible Yaris the powertrain the company used in its racing car that finished second at this year's Le Mans 24 hours race.
It features a pair of powerful electric motors that give it all-wheel drive capability. They are combined with a
1.6-litre petrol engine developed by Toyota Motorsport that should produce around 395bhp. Braking energy is stored in a super capacitor designed for use in a sports car.
Toyota has not revealed any performance stats for the Hybrid-R, nor has it given any indication that such an unlikely machine would make production, but it has said that it is designed to be driven 'both on road and track'.
Toyota is also set to show off the latest version of its Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle at the Frankfurt show.
