Volvo XC60 R-Design unveiled
Cosmetic and mechanical changes that create a more aggressive character have been revealed.
Sporty exterior additions include extra colour-coded bodywork, side sill extensions, twin chrome exhaust and a chrome-plated rear skid plate. There's also a 'silk metal' finish for the door mirrors, front grille and front foglamp surrounds.
Special 18-inch alloy wheels come as standard, but 20-inch alloys are optional.
The interior makeover includes sports seats, bespoke leather trim with R-Design logos, sports instrument dials, an R-Design steering wheel, aluminium foot pedals and perforated leather gearstick trim.
Under the skin
Mechanical changes provide a sportier driving experience, with more direct steering than standard XC60 models for quicker responses.
Sharper handling comes with the stiffer suspension, but Volvo says this doesn't 'impact too much on ride comfort'. The ride height isn't lowered, though, in the interest of retaining good ground clearance for any off-road duties.
UK prices for the Volvo XC60 R-Design will be confirmed in late 2009, but we'd expect them to start at around £28,500.
See it first at the Frankfurt motor show in September, with a showroom debut predicted for the end of 2009.
Volvo now produces R-Design versions of its C30, S40, V50, S80, V70, XC60 and XC90 models.
