Deal of the Day: Lease an MG ZS from £235 per month

The MG ZS is an efficient and spacious small SUV, and you could lease one for a keen price with our deals

The modern MG line-up is a long way from the two-seaters the brand was known for in the past, with its current models suited much more towards everyday usability. The MG ZS is one of them – a small SUV that undercuts most of its rivals on price, including the huge-selling Ford Puma.

Indeed, the ZS is spacious inside and offers plenty of kit for a bargain price, even in entry-level form. So, if that all sounds good to you, then you might be pleased to know that you could put a new one on your driveway for as little as £235 per month.

To do that, you’ll need to opt for a 36-month contract with an annual mileage limit of 6000 miles, and an initial payment of £2811.25. The annual 6000 mile restriction isn’t a huge allowance, so you’ll have to be careful to avoid excess mileage charges.

If you regularly cover more miles, you could opt for a more common 36-month, 10,000-mile agreement with six months initial rental (£1723.38), which will cost £287.23 per month.

You can have your ZS with either petrol or full hybrid power (a plug-in hybrid variant is coming later down the line), and our Deal of the Day comes with the latter. It pairs a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a small 1.8kWh battery and electric motor, pumping out a combined 194bhp and managing a 0-62mph sprint in 8.7sec. That means it’s much faster than any Dacia Duster or Renault Captur, and as quick as a Ford Puma Ecoboost 155.

That engine comes paired with a three-speed automatic gearbox, which is generally smooth, although it can be quite sluggish as it shifts up through the gears. On top of that, the ZS suffers from an unsettled ride, though things improve slightly at faster speeds. If you’re looking for something smoother, it’s worth looking at the Duster or Captur.

Despite its bargain price, the ZS’s interior is surprisingly pleasant, with dense, squishy plastics covering the dashboard. Even the harder plastics are textured so they don’t feel quite so cheap. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a plusher interior at this price point.

Every version of the ZS comes with a 12.3in infotainment touchscreen, which is responsive and comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring as standard. It’s mildly annoying that you have to dive into MG’s infotainment system to adjust the air-conditioning, though.

One of the ZS’s strongest features is its roomy interior. Space in the front is more generous than similar-priced rivals, so you shouldn’t have any issues getting comfortable. It’s a similar story in the rear, where even six-footers will have plenty of space for their legs and heads. With 443 litres of boot space, the ZS is also more practical than a Peugeot 2008, but the Duster has even more room.

Our Deal of the Day comes in entry-level SE trim, which comes equipped with 17in alloys, automatic LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, climate control and keyless entry.
