Traffic delays on Britain's motorways and main A-roads are lower than a year ago, according to figures released by the Department for Transport (DfT).
The figures show than the average delay fell from an average of 3.95 minutes to 3.92 minutes per 10 miles - a fall of 0.7%.
In a separate report on the state of English roads, the DfT concluded that 'there were more local authorities showing year-on-year improvements than there were showing declines'.
However, it added that 'after seven years of improvement, there was a slight deterioration in the condition of unclassified roads in built-up areas in 2007, and no change in the condition of unclassified roads in non-built up areas.'
