The Peugeot 308 SW estate will cost from Β£16,895 when it goes on sale in May. The entry-level car is a 109bhp 1.2-litre petrol in Access trim.

The 308 SW shares engines with the hatchback, which means there’s a range of three-cylinder petrols and four-cylinder diesels offered from launch. With the exception of the 91bhp diesel, every engine is equipped with engine stop-start technology.

Depending on the trim you choose, the 1.2 petrol is available with 109bhp or 129bhp. The diesel options are a 1.6 with 91bhp, 114bhp or 118bhp, as well as a 2.0-litre unit with 148bhp. CO2 emissions are as low as 85g/km for the 114bhp diesel in Active trim, and top out at 119g/km if you choose the 129bhp petrol with the six-speed automatic gearbox.

The four trim levels are identical to those offered on the 308 hatchback. That means that entry-level Access cars get air-conditioning, cruise control, DAB digital radio, Bluetooth and front electric windows. Every model also gets a 660-litre boot, with easy-to-reach handles that drop the 60/40-split folding rear seats.

Stepping up to Active trim costs Β£1450 more and adds alloy wheels, dual-zone air-con, automatic lights and wipers, touch-screen infotainment with sat-nav, and rear parking sensors.

Allure cars start at Β£19,745, and get larger alloy wheels, full LED headlights, a reversing camera and front parking sensors. Range-topping Feline models cost a further Β£1600, adding 18-inch alloys, a panoramic sunroof, Alcantara-trimmed sport seats and keyless entry and start.

Feline models also get the Driver Assistance Pack as standard, which includes adaptive cruise control, as well as collision alert and emergency braking systems. The safety pack will be a Β£450 option on Allure-spec cars. Other options will include leather upholstery (from Β£1200), plus the panoramic roof (Β£500) for mid-level trims.

The order book for the new Peugeot 308 SW will open on May 1, while the first dealer demonstrators should be available to test drive from June.
