The Nissan Qashqai is one of the leaders in the crossover market, both in terms of sales volume and how good we think it is. This £3300 saving off the list price of a top-of-the-range Tekna model should make it even more enticing.
The Nissan Qashqai has lots to recommend it, including a classy, well-built cabin with plenty of room, a good driving position, a huge boot, decent handling and a smooth ride, particularly over speed bumps or travelling on faster roads.
Nissan has made the Qashqai a great family car. You’ll hear no complaints from rear-seat passengers thanks to the generous head and leg room. The boot is also a good size, with plenty of space for a weekly shop, a full set of luggage or a couple of sets of golf clubs. This higher-spec model also comes with a useful false boot floor that allows you to keep fragile items safe and stops you from having to load things over a big lip into the boot.
We’re big fans of the Qashqai. We’ve named it What Car? Small SUV of the Year three years running and even Car of the Year 2014.
The 1.6-litre diesel engine in this model brings with it decent performance but can’t compete with the 1.5-litre unit in terms of fuel economy or refinement; it’s noisier than the smaller engine and there is some vibration through the pedals.
The Qashqai costs more than some rivals, although the saving here does level the playing field.
You can find that the thick front and rear pillars restrict visibility, so watch out for that on a test drive.
Should I add any options?
Tekna trim comes with everything you could possibly need – and more. You get cruise control, dual-zone climate control, automatic lights and wipers, alloy wheels, sat-nav and front and rear cameras and parking sensors.
The only option we’d choose is metallic paint, which will set you back £550.
