Accessibility & Motability
Usability for people with disability or their carers
Motability - Access
Well, if there’s a Motability car that provides access nirvana for those who have limited mobility, the Mercedes GLA is that car.
For a start, its doors open to a fabulous 71 degrees (a Toyota CH-R offers up 61 degrees in contrast) which means they are well and truly out of the way when you’re getting into or out of the car.
The GLA also makes it pretty easy to get stuff into and out of the boot because the boot sill is a reasonable 790mm from the ground. Place the adjustable-height boot floor in its highest setting and there’s no drop to the floor whatsoever, plus when you fold down the rear seats they lie completely flat.
Storage elsewhere in the interior is good, with door pockets that can each take a 500ml bottle, a large glovebox and various cubbies dotted around for day-to-day odds and ends.
Motability - Ease of use and options
You can currently have your Motability GLA as either a GLA 180 with a 134bhp 1.3-litre petrol engine or a GLA 200 with a 161bhp version of the same engine. We’d go for the latter because its significantly punchier performance makes the extra expense worthwhile.
