2019 Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 TSI 230 verdict

The Volkswagen Tiguan has been given a heart transplant courtesy of the Golf GTI, but does it improve this family SUV?...

2019 Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 TSI 230

We know from other VW Group cars that the TSI 230 engine has the potential to generate a lot of driving pleasure, so it's a real shame that it's so badly undermined by its gearbox in the Tiguan. However, that's not the only reason that we struggle to recommend this model.

Even when it's combined with less powerful engines, R-Line Tech trim is pricey. But here you’ll be spending an eye-watering £38,910.

True, average fuel economy of 30.1mpg is respectable – especially when you consider that the TSI 190 Tiguan (which has 40bhp less) manages only 31.0mpg. But the TSI 230 attracts the highest possible BIK company car rate, and even if you're a private buyer, a diesel makes more sense.

Remember, you can see how much you could save on a new Tiguan without any haggling by checking out our New Car Buying service.
