Deal of the Day: Lease a Ford Kuga from £220 per month

The Ford Kuga is a spacious and fun family SUV, and you could save a packet on one with our deals...

Ford has long been one of the most recognisable car brands here in the UK, so if you're in the market for a new family SUV, we wouldn't be surprised if the Ford Kuga is one of the models on your radar.

The Kuga is available in many different forms, offering petrol, regular hybrid or plug-in hybrid engine options, which means you shouldn’t have trouble finding a version that works for you. And that’s particularly beneficial for the Kuga, since it’s part of the super popular family SUV segment and has lots of strong rivals to contend with.

While some of those rivals are better all-rounders, the Kuga is still a solid contender, because it offers plenty of space and is enjoyable to drive. So, if that all sounds good to you, then you might be pleased to know that you could put a new Kuga on your driveway for as little as £220 per month.

To do that, you’ll need to opt for a 24-month contract with an annual mileage limit of 5000 miles, and an initial payment of £2639.64. The annual 5000 mile restriction isn’t a huge allowance, so you’ll have to be careful to avoid excess mileage charges.

If you regularly cover more miles, you could opt for a more common 36-month, 10,000-mile agreement with six months initial rental (£2042.28), which will cost £340.38 per month.

You can have your Kuga with a variety of power options, but our Deal of the Day is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), which combines a 2.5-litre petrol engine with a 14.4kWh battery and electric motor to keep your fuel bills low. Indeed, you can officially drive up to 42 miles on petrol-free power – which is around the same as what you get in a Hyundai Tucson PHEV.

The Kuga PHEV is also the most powerful of the engine options. It pumps out 240bhp and can sprint from 0-62mph in a respectable 7.3sec, which is faster than an equivalent Tucson.

If you’re looking specifically for a new company car, the Kuga PHEV will be the best option thanks to its electric power, which will allow you to qualify for lower BIK tax.

Our Deal of the Day comes in ST-Line trim, which adds sporty, firmer suspension. Indeed, it offers sharper handling for a more fun driving experience, but you do have to sacrifice a bit of comfort, since the firm suspension doesn’t soak up lumps and bumps in the road as well.

SUV fans will love the lofty driving position the Kuga offers, and it also comes with plenty of driver’s seat adjustment including lumbar support across all trims.

Inside, you get a 12.3in digital driver’s display alongside a 13in infotainment touchscreen, both of which offer sharp graphics and are relatively straightforward to use. A sat-nav comes as standard, but so do Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, so you can decide whether to use Ford’s system or the familiar apps on your phone.

The Kuga’s interior does fall short of some rivals due to the fact that all of its functions are controlled via the touchscreen, whereas other models, like the Mazda CX-5, offer more user-friendly physical dials and buttons. There are also some cheaper-feeling scratchy plastics furnishing the interior, which is disappointing, because similarly-priced rivals feel more plush inside.

While family SUVs are known for their interior space, the Kuga is one of the more generous examples on the market. There’s plenty of leg and headroom for taller passengers, and there’s a number of storage spots for all of your commodities – though the door pockets are a bit narrow.

Boot space is respectable for a car in its class, at 412 litres when the rear seats are in their normal position. That’s less than the rival Kia Sportage and Nissan Qashqai, but we managed to fit six carry-on suitcases in the Kuga’s boot, which should be enough for your everyday needs. There’s also a space under the boot floor to store charging cables.

Our Deal of the Day comes kitted out in mid-spec ST-Line trim, which adds sportier styling, 18in alloy wheels, automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree parking camera and 12-way electrically-adjustable front seats. That’s on top of the standard privacy glass, keyless entry and start, front and rear parking sensors and heated windscreen.
