Deal of the Day: Save more than £13,600 on a new Volkswagen Touareg

If buying a premium-badged family SUV is slightly out of your budget, then it’s worth taking a look at the Volkswagen Touareg. Indeed, it shares parts with two of the most upmarket SUVs around – the Bentley Bentayga and the Lamborghini Urus – but you can get a Touareg for a fraction of the price of those two models.

You can have your Touareg family SUV with either a diesel or petrol plug-in hybrid engine, both of which offer punchy power and impressive towing capability.

Our favourite is the Black Edition diesel, which comes with a 3.0 TDI V6 engine. It pumps out 228bhp, and comes with air suspension as standard which we consider to be an essential. It improves ride comfort and allows you to up your ride height should you want to go off-road – conditions in which it is surprisingly impressive given its luxury appearance.

The plug-in hybrid option combines a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine with an electric motor for a total output of 376bhp and, despite the fact that it’s the entry-level engine, it’s quicker than the diesel, sprinting from 0-62mph in 5.9sec. It falls short slightly on electric range though, at only 29 miles.

There is also a sporty Touareg R model, which borrows the plug-in hybrid setup from the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid and pumps out an impressive 456bhp.

You get plenty of standard kit in every Touareg, including the entry-level PHEV version, which comes equipped with Elegance trim. That model comes with 20in wheels, heated front and outer rear seats, four-zone climate control, an electrically-operated tailgate and a panoramic sunroof – all with a saving of up to £13,165.

Opting for the R model will save you up to £13,006. For a slight premium, you get that extra boost in power as well as electrically-adjustable leather seats, matrix LED headlights, 22in alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control and heated and cooled front seats, among other features.

Or, for the biggest saving of up to £13,675, you can kit your diesel-powered Touareg out with Black Edition trim, which gets you 21in wheels and black styling elements, as well as that air suspension.
