Electric Car Awards 2021: Best used hybrid luxury SUV
With electrified cars now coming in all shapes and sizes – and available to suit every budget – we’ve named the best models in every class. Here we look at the best used hybrid luxury SUV...
Volvo XC90 Recharge T8
There are many figures associated with the Volvo XC90 T8 that’ll make you stop and think.
Keen drivers, for example, might well be impressed that this large and luxurious seven-seat hybrid SUV can accelerate from 0-62mph in a sports car-rivalling 5.8sec. For those in charge of the purse strings, there’s also the fact that you can now pick up a 2016 T8 for well under half the price of a new one (around £32,000 for a car with an average mileage for the year).
Consider, too, that if you can recharge the battery regularly and a lot of your journeys are on the short side, you can make the most of this car’s ability to travel up to 25 miles solely on electric power (or slightly more for newer examples), leading to some impressively low fuel bills. Indeed, the T8 makes good financial sense all round, as illustrated by its official fuel economy and decent resale values. And even today, the XC90 is the only plug-in hybrid luxury SUV with seven seats.
It also manages to offer a big boot that’s barely compromised by the T8’s extra hybrid tech, with a decent amount of space even when all seven seats are in place.
It’s no surprise, then, that it stands out here and beats a lot of very favourable opposition for practicality and value – including the plug-in hybrid versions of the impressive Audi Q7 and the imperious BMW X5.
If you want a practical used plug-in hybrid luxury SUV, the XC90 T8 is the best there is.
