Ford's 100 years in photos 16/52

Ford is celebrating 100 years in Britain by delving into its archive of photographs.

This week's picture shows what life was like in the sleepy village of Dagenham 100 years ago, before it was developed by Ford and became forever synonymous with the car maker.

advertisment

Originally farmland, and home to a considerable amount of waste from the capital, the site was turned into a Ford production facility 80 years ago.

Today, it remains as a centre of diesel engine development and production for Ford and is the largest industrial employer in the London area.
