Introduction

What Car? says...

The restaurant business is a tough old trade. These days it’s no good serving up plain old corned beef with peas and mash if you want to stand out and pull in the punters. Oddly, a corned beef soufflé with an organic pea and mash jus would probably do the job, though, and that brings us to the Citroën e-C4.

That's because in the automotive industry, as it is with restaurants, tapping into the zeitgeist is what it’s all about. This is a car that does just that; it's an electric car and a coupé SUV, and you can’t get more current (excuse the pun) than that.

But is it a good electric car? And does it work as a coupé SUV? These are the most important questions to be considered and, guess what? They’re exactly what we’re appraising in this review. The e-C4 fits into our small electric car category, which covers everything from city cars, like the little electric Fiat 500, right up to family-sized SUVs like this one.

So we’ll be comparing it against other electric SUVs, like the Kia e-Niro and Peugeot e-2008, with which, incidentally, the e-C4 shares its underpinnings. As it’s a similar size to some electric hatchbacks, such as the Nissan Leaf and Volkswagen ID.3, we’ll be referencing those, too.

We’ll also tell you what the Citroën e-C4 is like to drive, including how fast it is and how far it’ll travel on a single charge, as well as how practical it is.
