2020 Porsche Macan GTS verdict

The Porsche Macan GTS is an even faster and sharper version of our 2020 Sports SUV of the Year. Time to find out if it's worth the £9500 premium...

2020 Porsche Macan GTS parked side on

We’ve made no secret that the Macan S is the best sports SUV compared with its rivals from Audi, BMW, Mercedes, etc. So, the question posed by the GTS is whether or not it’s better than its cheaper stalemate? The answer is simple: no.

Sure, it looks squatter and stealthier, with its lowered suspension and dark detailing, without straying into the realms of brash. And it’s still a very pleasing SUV to drive, without driving you to distraction by being too firm and compromised. Yet, after spending a couple of hours at the wheel of the GTS, the sense that an S would feel almost as good in the twisty bits and a bit more comfortable was palpable. So, inevitably, there’s a happy conclusion coming: keep the Macan S at top of the list and £9500 in your back pocket for a win, win.
