The new Mini Clubman is a much more practical car than its predecessor, but is it as good an all-rounder as Audi's brilliant A3 Sportback?

Our verdict

Credit where it’s due, the new Mini Clubman is a big improvement over its predecessor. It rides more smoothly, is more spacious inside and has an extensive list of standard kit and a smartly styled interior.

However, it’s more expensive to run than the Audi A3 and isn’t as refined or as good to drive. Unless you’re really sold on the looks, or want a more practical Mini than the one you’ve already got, go for the A3 Sportback.
