Detroit 2012: Mercedes E-Class Hybrid

The Mercedes E-Class Hybrid has been revealed at the Detroit motor show 2012.
The car is powered by a four-cylinder 201bhp diesel engine combined with a 20kW electric motor that ensures the E300 Hybrid is capable of averaging 67.2mpg and has CO2 emissions of just 109g/km.
Top speed is 150mph, while 0-62mph is polished off in 7.5 seconds, which means the E300 Hybrid has the power to beat the E350 CDI, yet is more economical than the E250 CDI.

The E300 Hybrid will be available as both a saloon and estate and is expected to go on sale in the next year.
Mercedes says the hybrid system which features a lithium-ion battery won't compromise passenger or boot space and can be adapted quickly for other Mercedes vehicles.
'The modular technology opens up a quick way for us to complement other model series with hybrid versions,' said Mercedes board member Dr Thomas Weber.
Mercedes also launched a V6 petrol hybrid at the Detroit motor show, however this car is for the US, Japanese and Chinese markets.
The E-Class Hybrid will go on sale in July, and is expected to cost around 38k similar to the E350.
