For The Santa Fe is great value, providing lots of space, practicality, power and kit for the money. It's good to drive, too.
Against The front head restraints are intrusive and some of the cabin trim is plasticky. Many rivals are cheaper to run and hold their value better.
The Santa Fe is a cracking family 4x4. It's not perfect, but at this price and with a five-year warranty, you can't really go wrong.
There's only one engine in the Santa Fe range, a 2.2-litre diesel, so the big choice is between the five- and seven-seat versions. However, we reckon it's worth going for the extra versatility of the seven-seater. True, the rearmost seats only suit kids, but when they're not being used, they fold away into the floor, so the seven-seater is every bit as practical as the five-seater in five-seat mode.
Like all Hyundais, the Santa Fe has a five-year unlimited-mileage warranty (the only 4x4 to do so), but for it to remain valid, body inspections must be carried out by an authorised Hyundai Dealer 12, 36 and 60 months after the first registration of the vehicle - and you have to pay for them.
