How good is your memory, specifically on the subject of classic French sports cars? If there’s a hint of petrol in your veins, you might recall the original Alpine A110. This tiny rear-engined coupé may not have been particularly powerful, but its low weight and nimble handling helped it snatch the first ever World Rally Championship back in 1973.
Despite Alpine (pronounced Al-peen) ceasing production in 1995 after falling sales, parent company Renault has decided to bring back the Dieppe-based firm with a modern interpretation of the A110. Like its namesake, this is a small coupé with the engine behind its driver, rear-wheel drive and a focus on pure driving enjoyment.
