Deal of the day: Audi A6 Avant Ultra

There has been a fair bit of change in the Audi A6's line-up recently. Not only has Audi added the new, efficient Ultra diesel engine to the range, but now it has given every version of the A6 a visual tweak, more equipment and an upgraded infotainment system.

The face-lift has also brought about a slight increase in price, but this deal shows that this need not be an issue, because we have found a discount of almost £8000.

The recent changes to the Audi A6 have made a good car that bit better, and made it competitive with the likes of the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class. The 2.0-litre Ultra version undercuts the efficient 5 Series in terms of CO2, so it should be £14 a month cheaper in company car tax than the BMW.

The new stop-start system cuts the engine out at speeds of 4mph and below, and is smooth to engage when it kicks back in. New insulation has made an already quiet car even more refined, while the car rides well, especially at motorway speeds.

Although it is unchanged by this face-lift, the interior remains the classiest of its rivals.

The A6 is not as entertaining to drive as the BMW, with the steering the biggest reason for this, because it feels numb.

If you go for higher S-Line trim then the ride is slightly more brittle than on the SE we have chosen for this deal, and air suspension is a pricey option at £2000.

Should I add any options?

There is now even more equipment offered as standard on the A6, including four-zone air-conditioning, front and rear parking sensors, Xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights and full iPod connectivity. There really is no need to add to the spec of the SE trim as a result.

The upgraded MMI Navigation Plus option, with upgraded graphics and more online connectivity in the car, is worth considering, but is not cheap at £1625 as part of the Technology Package.

What next?

You only get the full saving on this deal if you take out Audi's PCP finance deal, which has a 7.3% APR rate. The discount if you are paying cash is £450 less.
