The turbocharged 154bhp petrol is our pick of the DS3 hatchback range, but in the Cabriolet we prefer the more relaxed 118bhp 1.6. It still pulls smoothly from low revs and quietens down at motorway speeds.

High-speed ride comfort is also decent, but not at the expense of handling composure. The DS3 Cabriolet offers decent body control and plenty of grip. Few supermini cabins have more panache than the Citroen’s, and the DS3 has performed brilliantly in our recent reliability surveys.

Against
At speed the DS3 Cabriolet is comfortable, but it’s not as good around town. The suspension becomes crashy over patchy surfaces, and sharp mid-corner bumps can make it hop sideways. However, because all the pillars remain in place with the hood in the full open position, you don’t get the same roof-down experience as its rivals offer.

Should I add any options?
DStyle trim is well priced and gets a long list of standard kit including electric windows, air-con, tinted rear windows, Bluetooth and a USB socket.

If you like to personalise your car, you can change the colour of the dashboard accent for just £150. A convenience pack that includes climate control, automatic lights and wipers, plus heated power-folding door mirrors, costs £500.
