What's the car like?

New car deal of the day: Hyundai i10

We love the Hyundai i10, so much so that we named it as our City Car of the Year at the 2016 What Car? Awards, where it won out despite tough competition from rivals such as the Skoda Citigo and Volkswagen Up.

Don't be fooled by its small dimensions, because the i10 really is a great city car that represents real value for money for buyers. It's quieter and offers more space inside than most cars in this class, is cheap to buy and run and is ideally suited for life around town. The 1.2-litre petrol engine you get as part of this deal is the option we recommend: it offers good power delivery and makes it easy for the i10 to tackle motorways.

In addition, this Premium version of the i10 is well equipped and comes with air conditioning, Bluetooth, alloy wheels and an upgraded stereo system as standard.

Nobody will be expecting the i10 to offer the pinnacle of performance or handling, but this little city car handles itself very well and its engine is refined. The i10's insurance and servicing costs are also among the cheapest in this class.

Should I choose any options?

Our recommended Premium trim level should get you most of the equipment you're going to want, but if you do fancy more luxury then Premium SE specification is only £1120 more expensive. For that money, you get larger alloy wheels, satellite navigation and a 7.0in touchscreen infotainment system.

What are its rivals?

There's plenty of competition in this market, chiefly from the Volkswagen Group's triplet of city cars - the Seat Mii, Skoda Citigo and Volkswagen Up. Other choices here include the Vauxhall Viva, Citroën C1 and Fiat 500. While most of those models are fairly well received, though, it's only the i10 that gets a full five-star rating in this class.
