The Nissan Qashqai has picked up a maximum five-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash tests.
The Qashqai did particularly well in the adult protection category, in which it scored 88%. The driver was protected in all areas, scoring maximum points.
It also scored maximum points in the test for protecting an 18-month-old infant, with protection for the three-year-old child only marginally behind. Overall, the Qashqai scored 83% for child occupant protection.
The safety equipment offered on the Qashqai helped it to a 79% rating in the safety assist category. It is offered with Nissan's Safety Shield equipment, which includes forward emergency braking, lane-departure warning and a moving object detection system.
The accolade is not the first that the Qashqai has picked up this year, because it started 2014 by being named the What Car? Car of the Year. Read more about the Qashqai's award.
