The RS6 is not a cheap car, whether you go for the standard or Performance model. Anybody buying it will know that, and they can expect very high running costs, too. The fat, 20in tyres are going to need replacing fairly regularly at high cost, and fuel is going to be prodigiously expensive (expect circa 20-25mpg even in moderate use), as is insurance. It will also lose value very quickly – much faster even than a Range Rover Sport SVR.
At least you get really good standard equipment. The RS6 includes adaptive LED headlights, all the sat-nav and audio features (apart from Apple Carplay, which costs extra) you could want, leather interior, cruise control, metallic paint, powered tailgate, four-zone climate control, heated front seats and auto lights and wipers. Performance models add more styling kit and bigger alloys on top of the added power and torque. The only must-have option is the sports exhaust, to make the most of that engine noise.
You also get three year’s roadside assistance included along with a three-year, 60,000-mile warranty, which can be extended, albeit at quite a high cost. Servicing intervals depend on whether you opt for flexible or fixed schedules, but you can pay in monthly instalments regardless.
As you'd expect, the is brimming with safety kit. On top of the essentials - six airbags, an advanced stability control system, and Isofix child seat-mounting points on the front passenger seat and two outer rear ones – the RS6 also alerts the driver if it senses they’re getting tired. Unfortunately, though, you can’t add automatic city braking, blind spot warning or lane assist, which are all offered optionally or even included as standard on most rivals.
