2016 Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer - prices and specs revealed
Latest version of family estate loses weight but gains load space, prices start from 16,585...
Pricing and specs have been released for the new estate version of the Vauxhall Astra, which will be in showrooms March 2016.
What is it?
This is the new Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer, a rival for the Volkswagen Golf Estate, Skoda Octavia Estate and Ford Focus Estate.
The latest generation of the Astra Sports Tourer sits on the same set of chassis parts as the latest Astra hatchback. As a result, it is considerably lighter than the car it replaces, a move that should improve the car’s fuel efficiency and bring down its CO2 emissions.
What engines does it come with?
Vauxhall has announced that the motors’ power outputs will range from 99bhp to the 198bhp of the newly launched 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol unit. The key diesel will be Vauxhall’s latest 1.6-litre CDTi engine, with official claimed figures of 85.6mpg and 86g/km of CO2 emissions.
How much equipment does it come with?
Air-con, cruise control, electric front and rear windows and remote central locking come as standard on entry-level Design models, along with 16in alloys, black roof rails, chrome window trim and a rear spoiler.
The new Sports Tourer is actually pretty much the same size as the car it replaces – 4702mm long and 1871mm wide, so longer and wider than the Golf Estate. Vauxhall claims that the new car is more cleverly packaged inside, though, freeing up a couple of centimetres more headroom in the front and rear. Crucially, it also increases the Sports Tourer’s boot capacity, which it rises by 80 litres to a maximum of 1630 litres with the 20/40/20 split rear seat folded down.
The boot itself gets a few new optional features, including a range of dividing nets, side rails and cargo fasteners, and electric operation for the hatch. This can be operated via the key or by waving your foot below the rear bumper.
How much does it cost?
Prices start at £16,585 for the entry-level Design model, rising to £20,605 for top-spec Elite models.
