2019 Audi A7 45 TFSI verdict

The entry-level petrol engine in the Audi A7 45 TFSI has plenty of punch on paper, but is it a good match for this motorway cruiser?...

There's a lot to like about the Audi A7 even when it's equipped with the entry-level petrol engine. It’s beautifully made with an interior seemingly hewn from granite and plenty of swish tech to impress your mates. Equipped with the 2.0-litre petrol engine, the A7 is quick enough for most needs and we easily managed more than 35mpg during our testing on a mix of roads. Indeed, its blend of pace, palatable running costs and refined cruising manners make it our pick of the range.

What’s against the A7 45 TFSI applies to the whole A7 range: while the exterior might get you excited, the driving experience can leave you a bit cold, not helped by the frustrating gearbox. But it ticks so many other boxes that we'd happily recommend it over the equivalent Mercedes CLS. To see how much you could save on an A7 without any haggling, check out our New Car Buying service.
