Faster Range Rovers on the way
* ETO division to develop faster models * Boss wants to build hot sub-brand * Hot Evoque likely later this year...
Jaguar Land Rover's new high-performance division will expand to produce more focused models for both brands, including Range Rovers.
The Engineered To Order (ETO) division has so far produced fast Jaguars (XKR-S and XKR-S GT) and limited-edition luxury Range Rovers (Autobiography Ultimate and the Evoque Victoria Beckham). It was also involved in developing the XJR that was launched at this week's New York motor show.
Jaguar Land Rover CEO Dr Ralf Speth believes the division can also turn its hand to higher-performance Range Rover models.
'ETO can become more developed,' he told What Car?. 'We have a unique opportunity in that we have two options: we can go with ETO with Land Rover, or with Jaguar. I think it's an even broader band than AMG has with Mercedes; I believe we have fewer restrictions. There's a big pond where we can fish, so I think we can develop ETO very nicely.
'There is absolutely nothing to stop ETO from doing high-performance Land Rovers. It's one of the options. We are definitely thinking about ETO's possibilities here all the time because it could make sense for our customers, our product capability, technology and operational footprint.'
ETO is widely rumoured to be working on a higher-performance version of the Range Rover Evoque, which is expected before the end of this year. It's likely to feature a tuned four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with up to 300bhp.
