The VW ID 5 is a competent electric SUV that comes with plenty of kit, a decent range and an excellent safety score. There are stronger rivals, though, many of which are faster, smarter inside, have an even better range and take less time to charge. If you do buy an ID 5, we recommend going for the entry-level Pro Essential, because while it's not the very best electric SUV, it's really, really, good value in terms of range and equipment for the price.
