The VW Polo is a great all-rounder that's smart, comfortable and roomy inside, and good to drive. While it has a higher list price than some small cars, that’s largely offset by competitive monthly finance rates and strong resale values. However, hybrid rivals offer better fuel economy and the Skoda Fabia is even more comfy and refined.
The trim
The GTI hot hatch gets plenty of standard equipment, including 17in alloy wheels, sports suspension with sports adjustable dampers, matrix LED headlights, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, front sports seats, a 10.25in digital driver display, a touchscreen infotainment system with DAB radio, Bluetooth, built-in sat nav, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone mirroring, two-zone climate control, and front and rear parking sensors.
The engine
Producing 204bhp, the Polo GTI’s 2.0-litre turbocharged engine will take you from 0-62mph in 6.5sec. It has more than enough oomph to get you up to speed very easily and puts out its power in a strong and progressive manner.
