For The Honda CR-V is designed primarily for on- rather than off-road use, so it’s as comfortable and easy to drive as a family hatchback. There’s lots of interior space and the boot is huge.

Against It costs more to buy and run than some rivals, and entry-level models are poorly equipped. Its handling is quite stodgy and refinement is nothing special.

The Honda CR-V gives you masses of space, great versatility and relaxed driving manners. However, there are plenty of other SUVs that offer more equipment and superior refinement for less money.

Buyer's notes

Target Price team says:

All the engines are smooth, but our favourite is the punchy 158bhp 1.6-litre diesel. It comes with four-wheel drive, whereas the 118bhp version is front-wheel drive only and the 153bhp 2.0-litre petrol is available in front- or four-wheel-drive form.

Buyers with no intention of towing or venturing off road can stick with the front-wheel-drive versions, because in most situations you’ll struggle to tell the difference between the two- and four-wheel-drive models.

Equipment levels are good, as long as you avoid the entry-level trim. We’d go for an SE model, which comes with all the kit you need for a reasonable price.

Honda dealers always score highly in customer satisfaction surveys, but they’re tight with their discounts. That said, CR-Vs are famed for their strong resale values, so you should lose less money in depreciation than with many rivals.
