All the engines are smooth, but our favourite is the punchy 158bhp 1.6-litre diesel. It comes with four-wheel drive, whereas the 118bhp version is front-wheel drive only and the 153bhp 2.0-litre petrol is available in front- or four-wheel-drive form.
Buyers with no intention of towing or venturing off road can stick with the front-wheel-drive versions, because in most situations you’ll struggle to tell the difference between the two- and four-wheel-drive models.
Equipment levels are good, as long as you avoid the entry-level trim. We’d go for an SE model, which comes with all the kit you need for a reasonable price.
Honda dealers always score highly in customer satisfaction surveys, but they’re tight with their discounts. That said, CR-Vs are famed for their strong resale values, so you should lose less money in depreciation than with many rivals.
