For The Sorento is easily up to the job of towing or taking a trip off-road. There's loads of equipment, decent space in the cabin and boot, plus a temptingly low price tag.
Against It's not fantastic on-road thanks to its firm suspension and light steering, and there's a big question mark over the car's residual values. Overall running costs are pretty high.
A great off-road vehicle, with lots of equipment and a roomy cabin. It's less capable on-road, though.
The larger of Kia's two 4x4s, the Sorento is a fine off-roader, if not quite as impressive on-road, where several rivals have it beaten. But, wherever you want to use the car, make sure it's a model with the diesel engine you buy. It's cheaper to buy and run than the only alternative, a V6 petrol. The diesel models aren't quite as quick as the petrol one, but you don't buy a Sorento for its performance.
Instead, concentrate on its generous equipment and value for money. Unlike some more modern Kias, which have better cover, the Sorento has only a three-year warranty, as well as a six-year anti-perforation warranty. However, for that to remain valid, the car must have an annual bodywork inspection - and you may need to pay for that.
