2020 Citroen C5 Aircross 1.2 Puretech 130 EAT8 verdict
The Citroen C5 Aircross 1.2 Puretech 130 is now available with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, is it worth the extra over the manual?...

We’ve always liked this engine. It’s smooth and, for those that wish to eschew diesel, relatively efficient for a large petrol SUV. We’ve been averaging around 35mpg on a mix of roads, which is about what you can expect from similarly powerful petrol rivals.

And the automatic improves the driving experience, adding to the C5 Aircross’s relaxed bent. It adds a £1600 premium over the manual, but even so the starting price – it’s available from mid-trim Flair trim costing £28,335 – is inline with a Skoda Kodiaq 1.5 TSI 150 DSG SE. A Peugeot 5008 with the same engine and gearbox is a more practical proposition and even better to drive, but will cost you nearly £31,500. However, Citroen generally offers big discounts, so it's well worth checking to see how much you can save.
So, if you’re after a soft and wafty large SUV but need only five seats, it’s well worth considering the C5 Aircross auto.
