Car of the Year Awards 2022: Best pick-up for payload

Today, buyers expect a vehicle that you enjoy driving and being seen in, rather than simply something that does the job. But, of course, pick-ups are still workhorses first and foremost...

Best pick-up for payload

Ssangyong Musso Rhino LWB

Car of the Year 2022 - MotorEasy

If you need a workhorse, underestimate the Ssangyong Musso at your peril: its pulling power far exceeds that of much pricier rivals, and even with its full payload on board, it’s capable of towing a 3.5-tonne braked trailer.

Most pick-up trucks require you to significantly reduce the weight you carry on the load bed when you’re towing something heavy, but the Musso doesn’t. Plus, at 1140kg, its payload limit is higher to start with than you get with any rival – including the newest, the Isuzu D-Max.

The Musso isn’t just rough and ready, though. Behind all that brawn is a surprisingly pleasant interior that’s every bit as good as the Ford Ranger's, with loads of space inside for your passengers.

Of course, the price to be paid for the Musso’s Herculean weight-lifting talents is that its ride is a lot less forgiving than the Ranger’s, and that makes it a tad tiresome during long journeys.
