Citroen C5 gets cleaner engines

Citroen's C5 range has been updated with two greener engines.
A new 153bhp 1.6 turbocharged petrol engine will be available with the VTR+ NAV saloon. Compared with the engine it replaces, the new unit has improved average economy by 18.5% and cut CO2 emissions by 16% from 198g/km to 167g/km. This reduction means road tax is down from 215 to 175.
Cleaner diesel engine
There's also a new 158bhp 2.0 diesel engine to replace both the 138bhp 2.0 and the 171bhp 2.2 units. This offers the choice of a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox and is available in both saloon and Tourer estate models, in VTR+ NAV and Exclusive trim.
Compared with the outgoing 138bhp unit, the new 158bhp manual version produces 14% more power and a modest 3% improvement in fuel economy, along with a cut of 4% in CO2 emissions. The reduction from 198g/km to 147g/km means road tax is reduced from 150 to 125.
For the automatic versions, CO2 emissions are 179g/km on both the saloon and tourer reduced from 189g/km and 191g/km respectively. In both cases, road tax is reduced by 40, from 215 to 175.
Company car tax rates are also reduced with both new engines.

Other changes to the range include Bluetooth as standard for Exclusive models, and the SX trim has been renamed VTR (specification remains unchanged).
