Deal of the Day: Ford Mustang

The wait is almost over; the right-hand drive Ford Mustang is on its way to the UK and is set to be in showrooms in the autumn. It only went on sale last week and we’ve already found money off the American muscle car – click here to read everything we know about the UK version.

We’ll be driving the right-hand drive version of the car soon, but we drove the left-hand drive model in California last year – you can read the full review here.

With this barnstorming 412bhp 5.0-litre V8 engine, you get blistering speed for less money than a mid-range Audi A5 or BMW 4 Series. It sounds great, too. Even under light acceleration the engine has a great growl to it, and it’ll cover 0-62mph 4.8sec with a limited top speed of 155mph.

There’s enough room in the boot for a couple of suitcases and the lower loading lip helps make it easier to load things into and out of it. Inside, there’s lots of space in the front for the driver and passenger, with plenty of seat adjustment to find a comfortable driving position.

The GT performance pack includes stiffer anti-roll bars, better brakes, wider tyres, stiffer springs, a limited-slip differential and 19in black alloys.

The Mustang will turn heads wherever you drive it, but those huge wheels compromise the ride quality. Even at low speeds it’s not particularly settled.

It's well priced, especially with this discount, but with official fuel economy figures yet to be released, the 5.0-litre V8 could prove to be expensive to run.

Should I add any options?

Equipment includes automatic lights and wipers, cruise control and DAB radio. A range of paint options are available, and you can add heated front seats for £495 as well as an upgraded sound system with sat-nav for £795. There’s also an option to add a rear parking sensor for £295.

Anything else I should know?

Ford says that orders books are full until next year, so don't expect delivery before then.
