New Skoda Superb Estate vs used Audi A4 Avant: verdict
The Skoda Superb Estate is a highly practical estate car, but is that enough to make it a better buy than a more prestigious used Audi A4 Avant?...
New Skoda Superb Estate vs used Audi A4 Avant – alternatives
New rivals, used rivals
If you're looking for an alternative that's just as spacious as the Superb, the Volkswagen Passat is that car. It's not quite such good value as the Skoda, but it doesn't suffer from the floaty ride of the Superb, and the Passat is just that bit more refined overall.
The Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series have been at loggerheads for years. The 3 Series is characterised by its rear-wheel-drive platform and fine handling, but it also has some outstanding engine options and one of the best infotainment systems in the business. Used values remain strong but there are still some good deals to be had.
New Skoda Superb Estate vs used Audi A4 Avant – which is best?
There's no denying the temptation to go for the prestige option if your budget allows, and the Audi A4 Avant looks great value after the initial hit of depreciation has seen its values drop to below those of a brand new Skoda.
But then there's also a strong case to be made for the Skoda Superb Estate, especially when you consider that we regard it as the best estate car you can buy new today.
Both have compelling qualities, but while the A4 has the nicest interior, is the most refined and the tidiest handling, the extra comfort, equipment and practicality of the Superb make it the most sensible choice here. True, it'll be struck by big hit of depreciation with the Superb that the A4 has already gone through, but you can weigh that against the Superb's superior reliability and longer remaining manufacturer's warranty period.
