2020 Dacia Sandero Stepway Bi-Fuel verdict
LPG may be popular in other markets, but it's never taken off in the UK – will the intriguing new Dacia Sandero Stepway Bi-Fuel, and its siblings, change that?...
The Sandero Stepway is a very attractively priced car in the first place, and this LPG version gives it even more money-saving potential. In fact, given that it only costs £400 to step up to a Bi-Fuel model from a normal petrol Dacia, it seems a no-brainer to go for one of these new models – assuming you have easy access to a filling station with LPG pumps.
However, we would do without the off-road styling and 40mm additional ground clearance that Stepway trim brings, and stick with the regular Sandero in Essential trim – with the Bi-Fuel LPG box ticked on the order form. The list price of this model is an astonishing £9145, which is several thousand pounds less than you'll pay for most of its small car rivals.
The Sandero's shortcomings in quality and dynamics remain, but if you can live with those compromises you'll be rewarded with outstanding value. And – with both tanks brimmed – outstanding range.
