Car of the Year Awards 2023: Best coupé for value

A good coupé isn’t just about style. The trick if it’s to be among the class leaders is that it must feel on point whether you’re enjoying a great road or enduring a terrible commute...

Best coupé for value

Audi TT 40 TFSI Sport Edition

Car of the Year 2023 main logo

It speaks volumes about the Audi TT that it’s one of the most decorated cars in What Car? Awards history. In essence, that’s because it consistently balances important coupé qualities with a relatively affordable price.

With the entry-level 40 TFSI engine, it’s brisk, sprinting from 0-62mph in 6.6sec, yet it’s efficient enough to keep your running costs down. What’s more, it handles better than any other coupé at this price point without compromising comfort.

True, it’s not perfect, missing out on the BMW 4 Series’ ability to carry four adults in reasonable comfort (although the hatchback boot is surprisingly practical). However, you’ll find that the TT makes up for the shortage of rear seat space with a classy, well-built interior that’s full of luxurious materials.

In a world where everything we buy is becoming more expensive, it’s good to find a car that has retained its competitive price tag without sacrificing quality.
