2017 Vauxhall Insignia Country Tourer review - price, specs and release date

Fancy something nearly new instead, Ian? This 2017 Insignia Country Tourer is almost fresh out of the box. What you'll get is a spacious family estate that is both smooth and refined and comfortable for mile after mile of motorway munching. It's a diesel, for good economy, and comes with a slick six-speed manual gearbox and four-wheel drive for added stability. It comes loaded with equipment in this spec, and you'll have a fine driving machine mixed with all the practicality of a large estate.

Land Rover Discovery 4

If you're looking for a chunky four-wheel-drive tool with a touch of class to transport the family around in, and you're looking for something with a diesel engine and a manual gearbox, you can't do better than the Discovery.

Rugged and tough, but equally at home on the school run or outside Harrods, we found a 2015 Disco 4 that offers all the features we've come to expect from Land Rover's finest: the spacious seven-seat interior, the effortless practicality and the remarkable go-anywhere ability. At a whisker under £30,000, it's a used bargain that'll tick all Ian's boxes.

Subaru Forester

Another nearly new car for Ian to consider is the Subaru Forester. This fine four-wheel-drive SUV has real off-road capabilities and isn't bad on-road too. There's a smooth 2.0-litre diesel engine under the bonnet, promising good economy, a nifty six-speed manual gearbox and plenty of room inside for your family. It's well equipped, too. We found a 2017 model with minimal mileage for £24k. With exceptional build quality, it'll be ultra-reliable and should last a very long time indeed.
