Our new video series, What Car? Uncut, takes you behind the scenes of the UK's biggest car-buying brand. In this new video, we're introducing another of our long-term test cars, the Mazda 3 Fastback.

The Mazda 3 Fastback, as its name suggests, is a saloon version of the Mazda 3 hatchback. The 3 is already one of the best cars in its class, mixing fun driving dynamics with an efficient range of petrol and diesel engines and plenty of standard equipment. In fact, only some of its petrol engines let it down.

Our new long-term test car is a 1.5-litre diesel model in top-end Sport Nav specification, and we've got six months to find out if this saloon version can be every bit as practical and fun as the hatchback it's based on. Around 1000 miles in, and we're finding the 3 saloon to be a comfortable and economical cruiser.

So what has this Mazda 3 Fastback been like to live with so far? Deputy editor of whatcar.com Darren Moss tells us.
