The car: Mercedes C220 Bluetec Sport Auto
The saving: £3863
The discounted price: £28,997
The broker: Carfile.net

For
The Mercedes C-Class is a brand new model, and from the versions we have driven so far, we rate the C220 Sport as our pick of the range.

The fresh exterior is complemented by a classy cabin, with lots of high-grade surfaces and design flair to help justify the premium price.

On the road, the C220’s diesel engine performs well with good pick-up from low revs and it pulls strongly past 4000rpm. With the optional Airmatic air suspension fitted, the C-Class also rides well, while the Sport mode sharpens up the handling to make it enjoyable to drive on twisty country lanes

If you're a company car driver you will appreciate the low 16% tax band, while business and private buyers alike will welcome the 65.7mpg average fuel economy.

Safety kit is also impressive, with seven airbags and a collision avoidance system fitted as standard.

Against
Unless you add the air suspension, the C-Class suffers from too much body roll in the corners and a poor ride on pockmarked surfaces. The gruff sounding four-cylinder engine doesn’t do anything to help matters, nor the intrusive wind noise when travelling at speed.

Should I add any options?
The Sport model comes with sat-nav, 17-inch alloy wheels, heated front sport seats, LED headlights, Parktronic and Active Park Assist, which will locate a suitable parking space and help to guide the car into it.

Options to look at include the Airmatic suspension, which will set you back £895, but is worth every penny. For £1595 you can also specify the Premium Package, which adds keyless entry and start, electric memory front seats, LED interior lighting and a panoramic glass sunroof, but be aware that this last item does limit rear headroom.
