Next Skoda Superb to be saloon only

The next Skoda Superb will come as only a saloon, with the company ditching the half-hatch, half-saloon boot of the current model.

On the current model you can either open a small section of the boot, similar to a saloon, or swing the whole of the bootlid open as if it was a hatchback. However, the next model will be more conventional.

For those that need more space, it is likely that Skoda will continue to offer an estate version.

The next Superb arrives in 2015, and will come with four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines; the company is to ditch the V6 petrol engine that is in the current model.

One model that is set to join the range, though, is a plug-in hybrid. There are no further details on this version, but it is likely to be a similar unit to the one Volkswagen is planning for the next generation of the Passat saloon.
