2. Audi A5 Coupé

Best and worst coupes 2018

The A5 coupé is based on a former What Car? Car of the Year, the A4 saloon, so the fact that it's quite brilliant should come as no surprise. Even amid strong competition from the BMW 4 Series and Mercedes C-Class Coupé – both of which also feature in this list – the A5 stands out, thanks to its plush interior and strong engines.

The A5 is also rather practical for a coupé, with a usefully large boot and enough room in the back seats for a couple of six-footers.

Our pick 3.0 TDI 218 quattro

1. Audi TT

Best and worst coupes 2018

The latest TT is our favourite coupé and has held onto the title of Coupé of the Year at the What Car? Awards for three years running. It looks great, is brilliant to drive and won't break the bank. If you're looking for a coupé that gives sports car thrills but can also be driven every day, look no further.

At the same time, the TT's interior has a high-tech and user-friendly layout, and is made from sumptuous materials that wouldn’t look out of place in a luxury car. It’s even pretty practical, with an easy-to-access boot and rear seats that fold completely flat.

Our pick 1.8 TFSI 180 Sport
