Car of the Year Awards 2022: Best hot hatch for daily usability
Hot hatches should make even the most mundane of drives feel magical. However, this ability to entertain shouldn't come at the expense of everyday usability...
Audi RS3 Sportback Carbon Black

If you spend a bit of time behind the wheel of the Audi RS3, you’ll find yourself wondering why you should ever have to compromise between performance and usability. After all, if you can have 394bhp at your disposal while still being able to fit your whole family into the car, why wouldn’t you?
The RS3 really shines during day-to-day driving. It’s remarkably civilised at moderate speeds, kicking up less noise than the Mercedes-AMG A45 at a cruise and smoothing out bumps better, as long as you’ve added the optional adaptive suspension. On top of that, there’s plenty of space for four adults inside.

And yet, with a press of the accelerator, you can catapult from 0-62mph in 3.8sec while basking in the glorious sound of the five-cylinder engine. And although the steering doesn’t offer as much feel as the A45’s, the RS3 handles with real poise and is surprisingly playful in corners.
